Captain Marvel may have already started principle photography, but it’s not done with casting just yet. According to THR, the latest addition is the excellent Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right, 20th Century Women).
The details of the four-time Oscar nominee’s role are currently being kept secret, but she is said to be playing a scientist of some sort.
Captain Marvel is set to revolve around Brie Larson’s superhero Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who finds herself with superpowers after a freak accident that causes her DNA to fuse with that of an alien.
The film will be set in the nineties, and will also star Jude Law as Carol Danvers’ mentor Dr Walter Lawson, Gemma Chan as alien geneticist/spy Captain Minn-Erva, Ben Mendelsohn as an as yet unspecified villain, Lashana Lynch in an undisclosed role, and Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury before he famously lost one of his eyes.
Also reprising their Marvel roles are Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Djimon Hounsou as Korath and Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser.
The film is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with a screenplay by Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Kevin Feige is of course producing, and Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Stan Lee and Jonathan Schwartz are all serving as executive producers.
Captain Marvel is in cinemas on 8 March 2019. Get all the latest superhero movie news with every issue of SciFiNow.
