After a slightly bumpy ride, production on the second season of American Gods is underway and three very important roles have been cast.
Deadline reports that Devery Jacobs (Cardinal, The New Order), Dean Winters (John Wick, 30 Rock) and Kahyun Kim (Shameless, Cassandra French’s Finishing School)have been cast as Sam Black Crow, Mr Town and New Media respectively.
Sam Black Crow is a fan-favourite character from Neil Gaiman’s novel and is a key part of Shadow’s journey. While she’s hitch-hiking when we meet her in the book, Deadline describes her as a college student who “is spiritually cynical for someone who claims to believe in so much. She lives life with fierce confidence and openness, selling the chainsaw art she carves by the roadside for extra money.”
Mr Town, on the other hand, is not such a positive force on Shadow’s well-being. He’s one of the spooks who is “tasked by Mr. World (Crispin Glover) to find out what Shadow (Ricky Whittle) knows about Mr. Wednesday’s (Ian McShane) plan. His brutal efficiency and technique just may get him the answers to his curious questions.”
And then there’s New Media, a character that has been created to fill the gap left by Gillian Anderson’s departure (following former showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green’s departure). The tricky new god has been given a bit of an update, and is now “the goddess of global content — and in this age, a cyberspace chameleon, who is also a master of manipulation.”
The second season of American Gods comes from new showrunner Jesse Alexander and will have an eight-episode run. No air-date has been set.
