Netflix Plans An ‘Iron Fist’ Panel For San Diego Comic Con

Marvel Studios has declared that it is sitting out San Diego Comic-Con next month, so there won’t be any news about upcoming Marvel movies, but with all the secrecy surrounding ‘Avengers 4’– like the fact that we still don’t even know its NAME — that isn’t completely shocking.  The upcoming possible acquisition of 20th Century Fox is also believed to be a factor for this absence.  But there will be some Marvel media present.  It has just been revealed that Finn Jones and other cast members and producers of the Netflix series ‘Iron Fist’ will host a panel in Hall H.

The first season of ‘Iron Fist’ was a rare failure for the Marvel Netflix series as viewers and critics believed it fell short of the quality achieved by ‘Daredevil’, ‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘Luke Cage’.  But with a new showrunner Raven Metzner, replacing Scott Buck, plus additional appearances by lead character Danny Rand on ‘The Defenders’ and the upcoming second season of ‘Luke Cage’, hopefully things will turn around for this character.

Joining Jones on S2 are Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, Sacha Dhawan as Davos and Alice Eve in an undisclosed villain role.  Simone Missick will also return as Misty Knight, a character that she has portrayed in ‘Luke Cage’ and ‘The Defenders’.

‘Luke Cage’ S2 will arrive on Netflix this Friday on June 22.  Hopefully, Jones’ appearances on that show will set him up to excel in his own sophomore solo outing.  It’s unknown when ‘Iron Fist’ S2 will arrive.  It just wrapped in May, so odds are it needs a few months in post-production before it is ready.

There may be additional panels devoted to some of the other Marvel shows.  Both ‘Daredevil’ S3 and ‘The Punisher’ S2 are complete and ready to go, whenever Netflix decides to schedule them.  But so far, Netflix hasn’t revealed when these might be released, but if either is coming later this year, it would make sense for them to have some SDCC presence.

If you are attending SDCC, is the ‘Iron Fist’ panel one that you’ll make time for?

Jason Motes

Jason’s earliest memory is of watching ‘Batman,’ followed shortly by a memory of playing Batman & Robin with a friend, which entailed running outside in just their underwear and towels as capes. When adults told them they couldn’t run around outside in their underwear, both boys promptly whipped theirs off and ran around in just capes. Jason’s father gamely agreed to read him comic books as bedtime stories instead of ‘Snow White.’ (Super Friends being his favorite.) Jason saw all of the original Star Wars movies (and Indiana Jones and Superman and Star Trek…) in the theaters. Yes, he is old. And grew up in the most GEEKTASTIC decade ever, the 80s, devouring a steady diet of GI Joe, Transformers, Masters of the Universe, Princess of Power and (best of all) Jem! (It totally counts as sci fi! They had a sentient computer that projected holograms!) Jason has studied literature, journalism, film history and has a degree in creative writing (and a minor in psychology) from the University of South Alabama. He has worked as a technical writer and proofreader. These days, most of his creative energy goes into his blog and writing for this site! He lives with the cutest puppies ever.
