Valiant Comics’ ‘Faith’ Will Get A Live Action Film!

It’s no secret that female superheroes are taking the genre by storm, with Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel and the woman of Wakanda all being big parts of their respective franchises. In another step toward inclusion, the first plus-sized female superhero will break into the scene! Sony Pictures has given the green light to a live-action adaptation of the Valiant Comics superhero story ‘Faith.’ ‘American Gods’ writer Maria Melnik will pen the script!

Our new hero is Faith Herbert, a sci-fi loving super nerd who just so happens to have telekinetic superpowers. Casual. Toby Jaffe and Neal Moritz will produce the film under their Original Film company with Dan Mintz of DMG Entertainment.

Sony made the deal with Valiant Entertainment in 2015, and the live-action adaptation of ‘Faith’ is a huge, progressive step forward. Making superheroes more inclusive was a long time coming, seeing as most male heroes are almost always well-toned muscle heads, and the females are both miraculously well-endowed and model thin. Unless the character goes through a redesign, Faith is not that.

Faith made her comic debut in 1992 as a member of the Harbinger squad and her relatability made her popular enough to land her own solo comic book series. Faith can fly and she can levitate other objects in her “companion field.” Her attitude also sets her apart from other superheroes, as she comes across as bubbly and effervescent. The current comic series is written by Jody Houser and features artwork by Francis Portela and Marguerite Sauvage and covers by Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic.

Melnik’s has previously worked on Sony’s ‘The Maze,’ which will premiere in February, as well as the Starz! series ‘Counterpart,’ which features J.K. Simmons. She also previously worked on the television series ‘American Gods’ for Starz!

Stay tuned for more news about the ‘Faith’ live-action film as it becomes available!
