‘Saga’ Takes It’s Longest Break Yet With A Year-Long “Intermission”

Bad news ‘Saga‘ fans, the smash hit comic is going to be off shelves for at least the next year! Image Comics is going to feel the hurt on this one as co-creators Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples have shared that there is going to be at least a year until issue #55 comes out.

The news came from the back of ‘Saga’ #54 where the creators shared that:

After fifty-four issues and over 1,200 consecutive pages of sequential storytelling together, Fiona and I have decided to take an extended break before we eventually reunite with Saga #55. And unlike our usual three months of ‘Vacationanza’ between arcs, we plan to pause publication of this series for at least the next year.

This obviously wasn’t a decision we took lightly, but Fiona and I feel a responsibility to keep making the very best comic we can, and we both agreed that the only way to eventually finish the epic saga we set out to tell was with this one significant… let’s call it… Intermission!

‘Saga’ is often regarded as one of the best comic books to currently be in print. It has not been a stranger to breaks before, but usually, it only has a two to three-month hiatus between story arcs where this one is much longer.

My guess is that Vaughan and Staples have other projects on their plate and just need to take a breather between story arcs.

Either that or the duo roped Lin-Manuel Miranda into making a ‘Saga’ musical that they both expressed interest in seeing happen!

How do you plan on dealing with the next year without being able to read ‘Saga’? Do you think that the book will return with the creators refreshed and revitalized or will they be busy churning out other works while ‘Saga’ is on the backburner? Share your thoughts below!
