Time Traveler’s Wife HBO series from Steven Moffat on the way | SciFiNow

Steven Moffat can’t get enough of those darn time travellers: HBO has just ordered a TV series adaptation of The Time Traveler’s Wife from him, reports Deadline.

HBO programming president Casey Bloys said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Steven Moffat, Hartswood and WBTV on The Time Traveler’s Wife. Steven’s passion is evident in every project he’s written and we are certain that his love and respect for this mesmerising and textured novel will make it a quintessential HBO series.”

Moffat will serve as an executive producer for the series, alongside Sherlock‘s Sue Vertue and Doctor Who‘s Brian Minchin. Hartswood Films will produce in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The Time Traveler’s Wife will of course be based on the 2003 debut novel of American author Audrey Niffenegger.

“I read Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife many years ago, and I fell in love with it,” said Moffat. “In fact, I wrote a Doctor Who episode called ‘The Girl In The Fireplace’ as a direct response to it. When, in her next novel, Audrey had a character watching that very episode, I realised she was probably on to me.

“All these years later, the chance to adapt the novel itself, is a dream come true. The brave new world of long form television is now ready for this kind of depth and complexity. It’s a story of happy ever after — but not necessarily in that order.”

For those unfamiliar with the story, here’s the official Amazon synopsis for The Time Traveler’s Wife:

“This is the extraordinary love story of Clare and Henry who met when Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-two and Henry thirty. Impossible but true, because Henry suffers from a rare condition where his genetic clock periodically resets and he finds himself pulled suddenly into his past or future. In the face of this force they can neither prevent nor control, Henry and Clare’s struggle to lead normal lives is both intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.”

This is the second screen project based on the book, the first being the 2009 film starring Rachel McAdams as Clare and Eric Bana as Henry.
