Toy News Tuesday: I Hear The Drums Echoing Tonight


Hear ye! Hear Ye! We are proud to once again have the distinguished honor of bringing you an all-new edition of Toy News Tuesday! We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you! Summer is almost over, and we’re in that weird post-SDCC period where the next big convention is still a ways away with NYCC in October. Things are relatively quiet, but there’s still plenty to see in the Toy News for the week of August 14th, 2018!


Who You Gonna Call?

When there’s something strange in your neighborhood, you should probably have Diamond Select Toys set to speed dial! The latest wave of Diamond Select Toys ‘Ghostbusters Select’ line of 7″ figures is set to hit stores this week! The newest wave is the eighth in the overall toyline and is planned to be the last wave based on ‘Ghostbusters II’! Figures in this wave include Slimeblower Ray, and “We’re Back!” versions of Peter and Winston! As per usual, each figure includes a new piece of the collect-and-connect buildable Ghostbusters Firehouse diorama! If you want to complete your Ghostbusters Firehouse diorama display, you’ll also need all of the figures in the previously released waves six and seven (also based on ‘Ghostbusters II’), as well as the pieces included with all the figures in waves nine and ten (which will be based on ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ animated series)!

Surf’s Up At Walgreens!

While he was rumored for quite some time now, this week our suspicions were finally confirmed as Hasbro released the latest Walgreens exclusive Marvel Legends figure in the form of The Silver Surfer! This 6″ scale figure is based on the Herald of Galactus’ classic comic appearance (which has been left remarkably unchanged over the decades) and includes a silver surfboard, two cosmic power blast effects, and several sets of alternate hands! You can pick up this figure now at your local Walgreens store, or if they’re out of stock you can try to order one online from Walgreens.com! Hopefully, we will be seeing a gigantic new Galactus figure soon to go with him!

Hot Toys Is Off To Wakanda

Earlier this year Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ dominated the box office, smashing a variety of records and taking its rightful place on the throne as the highest grossing superhero film of all time!  Now Hot Toys is looking to take their rightful place in your collection with their reveal of two all-new ‘Black Panther’ 1:6th scale collectibles!

First up is the Princess of Wakanda herself, the Black Panther’s sister Shuri! Shuri stands approximately 11.5″ tall and includes her vibranium gauntlets, a spear, alternate hands, and a unique figure stand! The new 1:6th scale ‘Black Panther’ Shuri figure from Hot Toys is due out in the fall of 2019, so she is still a ways off! Check the full release from Hot Toys below!

“The Black Panther fights for us. And I will be there beside him.” Black Panther, one of the movies released by Marvel Studios earlier this year, keeps smashing records and exceeding the box-office and expectations. The Princess of Wakanda, Shuri, is the leader of the Wakandan Design Group responsible for developing this African Nation’s modern technology. When the young King T’Challa is drawn into a conflict that puts his homeland Wakanda and the entire world at risk, Shuri has proven herself a great backup on creating new security system and weapons, including the Panther Habits and her cool looking panther-like gauntlets.

Receiving a tremendous amount of attention in the already-happened exhibitions in San Diego and Hong Kong recently, Hot Toys is more than excited to introduce fans today the long awaited 1/6th scale collectible figure featuring T’Challa’s innovative little sister – Shuri of Black Panther. Beautifully crafted based on the appearance of Letitia Wright as Shuri in the movie, the highly-accurate collectible figure features a newly developed head sculpt with detailed hair sculpture, a newly developed body, an adorned elaborate new battle suit and neck ring, a Wakandan pattern sash, a wide range of weapons and accessories including a pair of LED light up Vibranium Guantlets, a spear, a Kimoyo Beads bracelet and a movie-themed figure stand! Gear up now to defend Wakanda with Shuri and her eye-catching weapon!

If you’ve already got plenty of ‘Black Panther’ figures from Hot Toys, this next offering is sure to be just the thing you need! In addition to the Shuri figure mentioned above, this week Hot Toys officially announced their new 1:6th scale Wakandan Throne! That’s right, you can now sit your favorite T’Challa figure (or Killmonger, we aren’t here to judge) on a scaled replica of the Throne of Wakanda straight out of the film!
