‘Marvel Rising’ Specials Will Bring Back Ghost-Spider And Introduce Iron Heart

The ‘Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors’ series just premiered on Disney XD, but it doesn’t stop there.  Disney XD has announced two new specials, ‘Marvel Rising: Chasing Ghosts’ and ‘Marvel Rising: Heart of Iron’.  The first will bring back Ghost-Spider (Dove Cameron), known to comic book readers as Spider-Gwen, while the second introduces a new character, Riri Williams, a.k.a. Iron Heart.

Cameron’s ‘Descendants’ co-star Booboo Stewart will voice the villain Exile.

Stand Out. Rise Together. Marvel Rising: Chasing Ghosts features the return of Dove Cameron (“Descendants 3”) and BooBoo Stewart (“Descendants 3”) in a brand-new 22-minute special that follows Ghost-Spider teaming-up with the Secret Warriors to bring down the villains Sheath and Exile for good.

There is already a trailer for ‘Chasing Ghosts’:

Cameron stated:

“I am so excited to return to the world of ‘Marvel Rising’ as Ghost-Spider!.  It’s so rewarding to be part of a project that resonates with girls, and speaks to topics and subject matters we can all relate to.”

Cameron also sings the show’s theme song ‘Born Ready’.

In ‘Marvel Rising: Heart of Iron’, viewers will be introduced to Riri Williams, a.k.a. Iron Heart, a character that was just introduced in the comics in 2016, but has quickly become a fan favorite.  This special will be twice as long as ‘Chasing Ghosts’, clocking in at 44 minutes.

‘Andi Mack’ star Sofia Wiley will provide the voice of Riri, a child prodigy that is having trouble fitting in with the older kids at college.  But when Hala the Accuser (Ming-Na Wen) trashes the school’s lab and kidnaps Riri’s best friend, Riri draws inspiration from her idol Iron Man (Mick Wingert) and creates her own suit of armor.

Wiley stated:

“I feel so honored to be a part of the Marvel family, but more importantly I’m excited to join a cast of diverse, strong intelligent women!  I can’t wait for fans to see my character and to see a little of themselves in this powerful young woman.”

The cast of ‘Marvel Rising’ also includes Tyler Posey as Inferno, Chloe Bennet as Quake, Cierra Ramirez as America Chavez, Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl, Kathreen Khavari as Ms. Marvel, Kamil McFadden as Patriot, Skai Jackson as Gloria Grant, Dee Bradley Baker as Lockjaw/Tippy-Toe, Steven Weber as Captain Stacy, Tara Strong as Mary Jane Watson, and Amanda C. Miller as Sheath.  ‘Heart of Iron’ also includes the voices of Kim Raver as Captain Marvel and Melanie Minichino as A.M.I.

Marvel’s Senior Vice President of Animation & Family Entertainment, Cort Lane said:

“We believe girls and boys are going to be so thrilled to see what happens next for The Secret Warriors, and watch new heroes shake up the team.”

The release dates for ‘Marvel Rising: Chasing Ghosts’ and ‘Marvel Rising: Heart of Iron’ have not yet been announced.

Jason Motes

Jason’s earliest memory is of watching ‘Batman,’ followed shortly by a memory of playing Batman & Robin with a friend, which entailed running outside in just their underwear and towels as capes. When adults told them they couldn’t run around outside in their underwear, both boys promptly whipped theirs off and ran around in just capes. Jason’s father gamely agreed to read him comic books as bedtime stories instead of ‘Snow White.’ (Super Friends being his favorite.) Jason saw all of the original Star Wars movies (and Indiana Jones and Superman and Star Trek…) in the theaters. Yes, he is old. And grew up in the most GEEKTASTIC decade ever, the 80s, devouring a steady diet of GI Joe, Transformers, Masters of the Universe, Princess of Power and (best of all) Jem! (It totally counts as sci fi! They had a sentient computer that projected holograms!) Jason has studied literature, journalism, film history and has a degree in creative writing (and a minor in psychology) from the University of South Alabama. He has worked as a technical writer and proofreader. These days, most of his creative energy goes into his blog and writing for this site! He lives with the cutest puppies ever.
