Toy News Tuesday: Order Up!


Welcome back once more to an all-new edition of Toy News Tuesday! We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you! This week we’re gearing up for New York Comic Con 2018, which is only a few days away! This year, much like every other year, the con has a number of awesome new exclusives available, plus we are sure there will be a wealth of new Toy news coming out of the con, so it’s likely to be one of the biggest weeks of the year! In the meantime, there’s still lots of awesome new items to see in the Toy News for the week of October 2nd, 2018!


Diamond Select Is Heading To ‘Castlevania’

This week our good friends at Diamond Select Toys has announced that they will be launching a veritable cornucopia of new products based on the popular ‘Castlevania’ animated series from Netflix. The animated series, which is actually based on the long-running video game franchise from Konami, tells the story of the Belmont family of Vampire Hunters as they fight the evil Count Dracula! DST will be producing a number of awesome new ‘Castlevania’ products including ‘Select’ figures, Minimates, Vinimates, and both Resin Statues and Gallery PVC Figures. Castlevania TV Series to Receive Collectibles from Diamond Select Toys

For 22 years, the world of Castlevania has enthralled video game enthusiasts with its adventure-oriented take on the Dracula mythos. Then, in 2017, an animated series based on that world debuted on Netflix, receiving an overwhelmingly positive reception from old and new fans alike. With a second season bowing on October 26, Diamond Select Toys and Collectibles, LLC, is honored to have been selected as the master toy licensee for the series, with multiple collectible lines planned.

Beginning in 2019, DST will offer products in a number of different categories, including Select action figures, Gallery PVC dioramas, Vinimates vinyl figures, Minimates mini-figures, resin statues and more. Products will be offered at multiple major retail chains, as well as through independent comic book shops via Diamond Comic Distributors.

“The Castlevania franchise has a rich, deep history, and the new animated series takes all of it to a new, vibrant, visually superb level,” said Diamond Select Toys president Chuck Terceira. “I’m personally a fan of the show, and I can’t wait to help execute some of its amazing character designs in 3-D.”

Based on the game Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, the Netflix series follows Trevor Belmont as he and other vampire hunters defend the nation of Wallachia from the demonic forces of a vengeful Count Dracula. he Castlevania. It was written by Warren Ellis, writer of a number of acclaimed comic books, including Transmetropolitan, Planetary, The Authority, Global Frequency, Astonishing X-Men and Red, as well as the video games Dead Space, Cold Winter, and Hostile Waters. Animation for the anime-influenced series is by Powerhouse Animation Studios.

The ‘Game’ Is On At McFarlane

In a surprise announcement ahead of New York Comic Con, the team at McFarlane Toys has announced an all-new line of 6″ figures based on the popular ‘Game Of Thrones’ television series. Details are scarce for the time being, but the first wave of figures looks like it’s set to include Jon Snow, Arya Stark, Daenerys Targaryen, and The Night King! Like most McFarlane figures, we can expect these to be heavily detailed with realistic sculpts, although it remains to be seen just how much articulation we can expect from these when they release next spring. We will definitely be following this new line closely and keep you posted with more details as they come.

Tormund Will Be Thrilled

While we’re on the subject of the hit HBO high fantasy series ‘Game Of Thrones’, the team at ThreeZero released a new teaser this week for the latest figure in their ongoing 1:6th scale line based on the show! The latest figure to join ThreeZero’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ line appears to be none other than Brienne Of Tarth! As only a teaser image was released, little information is available for this figure for the time being. The figure looks to feature a stunning likeness of actress Gwendoline Christie, who portrays Brienne on the show. We will keep you posted on additional details for ThreeZero’s 1:6th scale ‘Game Of Thrones’ Brienne Of Tarth figure as they become available.

The team at Mezco has announced their latest Mega Scale figure just in time for Halloween, and ‘It’ is sure to give collectors a fright! Coming soon from Mezco is the all-new 15″ Mega Scale Talking Pennywise figure from Stephen King’s ‘It’! Pennywise will be fully articulated and feature a number of quotes and catchphrases from the 2017 film! The new Mega Scale Talking Pennywise from Mezco will set you back a cool $98 when it releases next spring, just in time for ‘It: Chapter 2’!

Pennywise The Dancing Clown from IT (2017) has again emerged from the sewer of Derry!

The M.D.S. Mega Scale Talking Pennywise stands at a forbidding 15” tall, is dressed in a real cloth clown suit, is fully articulated and says some of his most nightmare-inducing phrases from the film.
