George R.R. Martin Confirms That The ‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel Isn’t “Yet” Named ‘The Long Night’

It recently sounded like George R.R. Martin had let loose the name for HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘ prequel as ‘The Long Night‘ before that rumor was quickly put to rest by HBO. Now, the author is doubling down on the fact that the series has “yet” to get an official name though he still seems to be leaning towards the one which he had suggested.

The news came from Martin’s “Not A Blog:

“Oh, I should also mention… HBO has informed me that the Jane Goldman pilot is not (yet) titled THE LONG NIGHT. That’s is certainly the title I prefer, but for the moment the pilot is still officially UNTITLED. So… mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa. Elsewise, the pilot is coming along well, with casting falling into place. I could tell you more, but I am not supposed to. We also have a couple of other successor shows still in development, but I cannot tell you about those either. Sorry.”

He went on to say he couldn’t talk about any of his other shows like the upcoming ‘Wild Cards’ television series or ‘Who Fears Death’ which he’s involved in because, “Hush hush, it’s Hollywood, they like news to come through officially approved channels out there.” So it seems unlikely Martin will be giving us any further updates on the progress of these shows unless the people in charge give him the go-ahead to share details.

Personally, I think it would be a smart choice on HBO’s part to allow Martin to share some of the news when it can be made public.

Do you think that the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel will eventually be called ‘The Long Night’? Is it at all annoying that HBO wasn’t thrilled that the creator of the franchise wanted to share his excitement for the series? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
