For a limited time, anyone in the United States can watch the first episodes of ‘Titans’, ‘Doom Patrol’, and ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’ for free!  Just head over to the DC Universe website or download the DC Universe app, but act fast, because this promotion ends next Friday, March 29.  No registration or credit card information is required to watch these three starter episodes, but of course, the streaming service hopes to sign up new subscribers, once they get hooked on what they can view for free.

In addition to these three, DC Universe has two more live-action shows, ‘Swamp Thing’ and ‘Stargirl’ on the way, plus an adult-targeted animated series, ‘Harley Quinn’.  The first season of ‘Titans’ is available to subscribers in its entirety, along with the first half of ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’.  As it stands, there will be new material released weekly for the rest of 2019.  DC Universe also offers ‘DC Daily’, a round table talk show about all things DC with new episodes every Monday-Friday.  And of course, there is a deep back catalog of DC programming, including the 19450s Fleischer ‘Superman’ shorts, the Tim Burton/Michael Keaton ‘Batman’ movies, the Christopher Reeve ‘Superman’ movies, ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ and more.

In addition, DC Universe subscribers have access to brand new DC original animated movies the same day as they are released on DVD and Blu-Ray, and a library of hundreds of DC comic books.  DC Universe also offers forums for fans to connect, plus exclusive toys and other merchandising only available to subscribers.

For those interested, DC Universe costs $7.99 a month, with discounts for yearly signups.

Presumably, this is an effort to boost subscriptions.  Some may not have signed on yet, because true, there are already several subscription services that offer a lot more content, but for comic book fans, the monthly subscription rate for DC Universe is roughly the price of two new comics.  Looking at it that way, the fee doesn’t seem as hefty.

To take advantage of the free episodes offer, visit DCUniverse.com or download the app.

Jax Motes

Jax’s earliest memory is of watching ‘Batman,’ followed shortly by a memory of playing Batman & Robin with a friend, which entailed running outside in just their underwear and towels as capes. When adults told them they couldn’t run around outside in their underwear, both boys promptly whipped theirs off and ran around in just capes.
